ABOUT
I grew up in a family of public servants, having witnessed dedication and responsibility to a greater mission. During my freshman year of high school, our faculty organized their first, campus-wide, full-scale exercise. As the exercise progressed, I identified some gaps in processes and procedures, and a few weeks later I established an emergency response club which ultimately led to formalized staff and student training, planning efforts, and preparedness projects. That’s when I decided I, too, would follow a path in public service.
After completing the University of California, Los Angeles, Emergency Medical Technician program, I pursued a Bachelor’s degree in Criminology and Psychology from the University of California, Irvine, followed by a Master’s degree in Emergency and Disaster Management from Georgetown University. As an aspiring life-long learner, I had a desire to participate in professional education, therefore, I completed the Public Safety Leadership Program, Safe Communities Institute, University of Southern California and the Emergence Program, Center for Homeland Defense and Security, Naval Postgraduate School. Moreover, I hold the Certified Emergency Manager credential from the International Association of Emergency Managers.
I have experience in both municipal and federal emergency management. Specifically, I specialize in strategic and tactical planning, emergency operations center coordination, training development and instruction, analysis, innovative solutions, process improvement, crisis communications, and more. Partnerships are essential for a resilient whole community, therefore I value both interagency and inter-disciplinary collaboration that fosters a true team of teams across the greater mission of homeland security.
