How to Organize an Effective Academic Paper

Do you wonder where to start when sitting down to write your first paper in homeland security? This course teaches you how to write the introduction, body, and conclusion of an academic paper, how to distinguish stronger from weaker arguments, and how to support an argument in self-contained body paragraphs. Each module (3 total) is approximately 10 minutes long, intermixing lecture with practice quizzes, color-coded examples of paragraphs, and short practice assignments.


Module 1

Covers the purpose, function, and elements of an academic paper.



Module 2

Breaks introductory paragraphs into their component parts with examples.



Module 3

Teaches how to write focused body paragraphs that support the main argument, and how to nail the conclusion in the first draft.
