The Internet and Web 2.0 technologies have significantly reduced the need for face-to face human contact historically associated with terrorist recruitment, instead allowing direct and dynamic contact between operatives and susceptible recruits separated by thousands of miles. This thesis reveals the extent of Web 2.0’s role as a primary catalyst in the radicalization of U.S. persons whether they choose to travel overseas to join a terrorist organization or attempt a mass-casualty attack here in the homeland.
