Watermark Summer 2022 Now Available

As it arrives in mailboxes, the Summer 2022 issue of the Center for Homeland Defense and Security’s alumni magazine Watermark is now also available online

In this issue, Watermark marks CHDS’s 20th anniversary in a three-part series exploring its 2002 founding in the wake of 9/11, its growth and evolution into the nation’s preeminent homeland security educational institution over the decades since then, and its future.

In addition, this issue of Watermark includes a look at the accomplishments of two very talented women, including CHDS alum Dr. Carol Cunningham’s ability to balance work as the first Black state medical director (Ohio) with life as a working backup singer and Cleveland, OH, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame board member; and, CHDS alum and acting U.S. Customs and Border Patrol National Border Security Intelligence Watch Executive Director Kim Ramsey, who rose from new government employee to a top administrator in less than a dozen years.

Among the other topics in the Summer 2022 issue:

  • A look back at the three-day CHDS Alumni Professional Exchange (APEX) Continuing Education Workshop held in February that featured an expert roster of speakers addressing significant national and international security issues facing our nation
  • Impactful Emergence change initiatives from four CHDS Emergence alums: Emmanuel Louis, Maria Leon, Jessica Navarro, and Vanessa Lyman
  • A fireside chat with former Secretary of Defense and CIA Director Leon Panetta during a CHDS Executive Leaders Program session
  • An update from the CHDS Self-Study Program that now counts more than 1,900 users from more than 550 different agencies and educational programs and has added seven new courses this year

If you would like to be included in future issues of Watermark, please send us your personal and/or career updates, story ideas, promotions, photos, and publications.

We at CHDS are always happy to hear from our alumni about what’s happening in their lives and their work in homeland security, public safety, and emergency management.

Watermark is the Alumni Magazine of the Center for Homeland Defense and Security at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, CA.
