The Homeland Defense & Security Education Summit is a cornerstone of the University and Agency Partnership Initiative (UAPI). And it’s only two weeks away! Have you registered yet?
This is the first time the Summit has been hosted in Monterey, CA but it is always a collaborative effort with our Summit partners in the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
This year’s theme “Public Interest Security: Leveraging Education to Connect Policy and Operations with American Perspectives of Homeland Security” will produce a number of diverse discussion topics by focusing on two specific research presentation tracks: Border Issues and Technology and Influence Operations. To complement two specific presentation tracks, the three-day Education Summit will also address pertinent sub-themes in the realm of evolving homeland security threats, critical infrastructure protection, emergency preparedness, and new approaches in homeland security education.
We expect the Summit to attract homeland security program faculty and directors who want to refresh their curricula, enrich and grow their programs, integrate best practices, and engage in professional development. By collaborating with over 400 academic programs, we’re able to provide a wide breadth of opportunities to learn from roundtable discussions, research presentations, and moderated panels with subject matter experts from top-tier institutions like the Bush School of Government and Public Service at Texas A&M University, the School of Professional Advancement at Tulane University, the National Domestic Preparedness Consortium, the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, the U.S. Army War College, St. John’s University, Stanford School of Law, and of course, the Naval Postgraduate School and the Center for Homeland Defense and Security.
In addition to the comprehensive educational content, each day will begin with inspiring opening remarks from highly-accomplished homeland security practitioners like Scott Kelberg, Director of FEMA’s National Training and Education Division; Ann Rondeau, NPS President; Thomas Modly, Undersecretary of the Navy; Wendy Walsh, FEMA/NTES Higher Education Program Manager; and Jim Ramsey, Executive Director of the International Society for Preparedness, Resilience & Security.
