From Mark Fitzpatrick – Lieutenant, Gwinnett County Police Department
I applied to the graduate program after learning of it at an emergency management/homeland security conference. As I began to research the program, I was excited about the variety of classes as well as the professors who had both academic experience and that of a practitioner. It was important for me to have professors experienced in homeland security matters through their efforts in research and additionally having hands on involvement in very diverse ways.
When I came to CHDS I quickly realized that my knowledge would be enhanced, not only by the professors, but by other members of my cohort. The mixture of disciplines involved was very impressive as was the representation of local, state, and federal agencies from across the nation. I truly believe the level of knowledge I received here is second to none. The curriculum was the perfect combination that allowed me to return to my agency with a better understanding of strategic thinking and how to implement new and innovative ideas.
