The Advanced Thinking in Homeland Security (HSx) program is seeking highly motivated leaders and creative thinkers to build our knowledge and create new paradigms for the future security challenges facing the nation and our global community.

A complete application includes the following:

  • Current resume including educational history and notable accomplishments.
  • A short essay on why you want to be part of the HSx Program (no more than one page, double-spaced)
  • Imagine that you just graduated from HSx. Write your own retrospective synopsis.  In it, describe your experience, the skills you honed, the opportunities HSx provided and the knowledge you gained.  Go into detail about the “Grand Challenge Idea” you explored and developed into your innovative venture, the complex problem or opportunity it addresses and the impact your venture could have on the homeland security environment.  (No more than 5 pages, double-spaced.)
  • If you are employed, a letter of support from a supervisor. The letter should confirm you will be allowed the time away to attend (if applicable).  Note: Agency support is not mandatory for consideration. In lieu of a supervisor letter of support, you may provide a memorandum outlining how you will participate in the program without agency support, should you choose to.

The selection committee will not review your online application unless your Application Status shows it is complete and you have Finalized it.
