Fourth Annual Homeland Defense and Security Education Summit

Georgetown University - February 24-25, 2010

Agenda [pdf] - updated 2/17/10

This Year's Theme: Homeland Security in Transition

The academic discipline of homeland security and defense continues to grow and mature. In light of the advances we are experiencing, and with the first post-9/11 administration one year in office, our focus is on validating homeland security and defense education. We will discuss the most pertinent issues relevant to security professionals, address the "return on investment" in homeland security/defense education, and identify current and relevant applied research areas.

The 2010 Summit will feature:

  • Significant debate and discussion on a broad variety of Homeland Security and Defense Education topics
  • An unparalleled networking opportunity with innovators and visionaries
  • Plenary presentations from senior homeland security leadership on the present state and future expectations of our effort
  • Presentation of a broad variety of Homeland Security and Defense research
  • Workshops on innovative Homeland Security Courses and educational methods
  • A status update of the Homeland Security and Defense Education Consortium Association (HSDECA) and accreditation

Call for Papers

We invite interested scholars to submit proposals for presentation at the 4th Annual Homeland Defense and Security Education Summit. Forty-four (44) proposals will be selected for presentation from among those submitted for consideration. Presentations should be on a topic of significance to the homeland security and homeland defense education communities that fall into the theme of the Conference "Homeland Security and Defense in Transition." More specifically, there will be four tracks:

  1. Current and Emerging Threats in a Multi-Hazard Environment
  2. Homeland Security/Defense Organizations, Processes and Management, with special emphasis on the role of the private sector
  3. Homeland Security/Defense Policies, Strategies, and Legal Issues
  4. Preparing Homeland Security/Defense Professionals for the Future

Within these broad areas, we welcome proposals that address essential elements of homeland security and defense designed to promote and mature our field as an academic discipline. In particular, presentations that provide disruptive innovations or include case studies of issues that reflect homeland security processes are sought.
