Course(s): IS4010: Technology for Homeland Security Background: Richard Bergin is an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Information Sciences at the Naval Postgraduate School. Over the past seven years, he has been teaching for the Center for Homeland Defense and Security (CHDS). During this time, he has advised over seventy CHDS Masters thesis projects and is currently serving on the editorial board for the Homeland Security Affairs Journal.
Mr. Bergin earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration with a dual emphasis in Information and Operations Management. He holds two Master of Science degrees in Information Sciences and Management Information Systems from USC and Claremont Colleges, respectively. He is currently a PhD student at the Naval Postgraduate School in the Information Sciences department. His area of research focuses on virtual co-presence and Knowledge Flow Theory.
Mr. Bergin has taught courses at the both the graduate and undergraduate level. Courses taught at the Marshall School of Business at the University of Southern California (USC) include: Information Technology Strategy, E-Business, Business Systems Networking, and Information Security. Coursers taught for the Information Sciences and for the Homeland Security departments at the Naval Postgraduate School include: Management Information Systems, Information Technology Strategy, and Technology for Homeland Security.
Prior to his academic assignments, he founded and acted as CEO of Internet Productions—a premier software development company that specialized in offering innovative e-commerce applications for the World Wide Web. Mr. Bergin has an extensive background in operations and production management. He worked in the Aerospace and Networking industry and the Communication Devices industry as a production manager, systems analyst, and senior planner. Expertise and Interests: Psychology of Terrorism, Crisis Communication Course(s): NS4133: The Psychology of Fear Management and Terrorism Background: As well as working at the Naval Postgraduate School Center for Homeland Security, Dr. Breckenridge is Professor of Psychology and Chair of the Stanford/Pacific Graduate School of Psychology (PGSP) Consortium and Consulting Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Stanford University School of Medicine. Dahl is an assistant professor of national security affairs at the Naval Postgraduate School. His research and teaching focus on intelligence, terrorism, and international and homeland security, and he recently completed a book manuscript titled Intelligence and Surprise Attack: Failure and Success from Pearl Harbor to 9/11 and Beyond (Georgetown University Press, forthcoming in 2013). He retired from the U.S. Navy in 2002 after serving 21 years as an intelligence officer, and received his Ph.D. from the Fletcher School of Tufts University. Naval Postgraduate School (NPS)

He joined the Naval Postgraduate School in July of 1996. He also serves on the faculty and as Director of Research for the Center for Homeland Defense and Security (CHDS), and he serves on the Human Systems Integration (HSI) Curriculum Committee. In 2002, he initiated a program to develop an open source game engine for use in developing training simulations. Course(s): NS2013: Research and Writing for Homeland Security; NS4081: Research Colloquium; NS3028: Comparative Government for Homeland Security Background: Dr. Jones currently serves in Afghanistan as Senior Advisor and Plans Officer for the Commanding General, U.S. Special Operations Forces (Combined Forces Special Operations Component Command - Afghanistan). He oversees U.S. Special Operations efforts to engage Afghan tribes and other local institutions against the Taliban, Haqqani network, al Qa'ida, and other insurgent groups. He lectures on related subjects at the Center for Homeland Defense at the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School and Georgetown University's Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service, and serves as a Political Scientist at the RAND Corporation. Dr. Jones earned both his Master's degree and Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Chicago. He served formerly as the Chair of the Computer Science department at NPS and as a Professor of Computer Science at Oregon State University, Corvallis, Ore., where he was Director of OACIS - a University-Industry Research Center created to transfer technology from research into products. He holds M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Computer Science from Washington State University (1970 and 1971), and a B.S. in Mathematics from Oregon State University. He has worked a variety of assignments, including Patrol, SWAT and Narcotics, including over a year in an undercover capacity. Pat has also worked for the Central Intelligence Agency developing counter-narcotics/terrorism programs in El Salvador, Honduras and Colombia. Miller earned a Bachelor of Science in Administration of Justice from Cal Lutheran College in 1975, A Master's Degree in Public Administration from Pepperdine University in 1980, completion of the California Command College in 1996 and a Masters Degree from the Naval Postgraduate School, Center for Homeland Defense and Security in 2005. Course(s): NS2013: Research and Writing for Homeland Security; NS4081: Research Colloquium; NS3028: Comparative Government for Homeland Security Background: Nadav serves as a member of the LA and Orange County Sheriff's Departments' Homeland Security Advisory Council In 2001, Nadav took up a position, initially as Senior Director for Domestic Policy and subsequently as Senior Director for Foreign Policy, at Israel's National Security Council. He also served as a reserve officer in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) in the areas of education/training and subsequently in the Army Spokesperson's Office as an advisor to the chief spokesperson of the IDF on public affairs, media relations and strategic communications. Morag holds B.A. and M.A. degrees from UCLA and a Ph.D. from Tel Aviv University in Political Science (2000) and served on the faculty of Tel Aviv University between 1993 and 2003. Mr. Rollins' career includes a variety of analytic, legal, and management positions in the U.S. Army, FBI, CIA, DIA, U.S. Marine Corps, 1st SFOD-D (Delta Force), and the United Nations. Course(s): NS3028: Comparative Government for Homeland Security Background: Paul Smith, a British citizen, was born in 1953 and served as a commissioned infantry officer in the British Army for 20 years in both front line and senior policy positions in the UK Ministry of Defence. He completed 5 operational tours in Northern Ireland during the 1970s and 1980s. In 1993 Paul left the Army to join the British Security Service (MI5) where for the next 17 years he completed a series of operational, investigative and liaison postings in UK, Northern Ireland and abroad. His final posting was to the British Embassy in Washington, DC as the MI5 counter terrorist liaison officer to the US intelligence community. In 2008 Paul took a year - long appointment as an Intelligence Specialist with the FBI Intelligence Reform program. Since then he has provided counter terrorist intelligence and operational training to US Federal, State and Local law enforcement agencies. Since 2009 Paul has also been an adjunct professor teaching to students attending the Homeland Security Masters Course held at the Center for Homeland Defense and Security, the US Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey, California.

Between May 2001 and March 2006, he served as United Nations Headquarters correspondent for the British security affairs magazine Jane's Intelligence Review. He holds an MA (1st Class Honours) in International Relations and Philosophy (1997) and a Ph.D. in International Relations (2002), both from St Andrews University.
